The Promised Land Is In Your Hand

The Promised Land Is In Your Hand

Now after the death of Moses the servant of the LORD it came to pass, that the LORD spake unto Joshua the son of Nun, Moses' minister, saying, Moses my servant is dead; now therefore arise, go over this Jordan, thou, and all this people, unto the land which I do give to them, even to the children of Israel. Every place that the sole of your foot shall tread upon, that have I given unto you, as I said unto Moses. Joshua 1:1-3

The Promised Land is a term used to describe the land promised by God to the Israelites. The promise is first made to Abraham (Genesis 15:18-21) and then renewed to his son Isaac, and to Isaac's son Jacob (Genesis 28:13), Abraham's grandson. Generations later, the land that God promised to Abraham (Genesis 15:18) is now being occupied and conquered by Joshua.

Prior to entering the Promised Land, men were chosen and commissioned by Moses to spy out the land of Canaan. Joshua, whose name means "savior" and in Greek means "Jesus," was one of the spies sent to spy out the land (Numbers chapters 13, 14 and 15). Joshua and Caleb reported that the land was good, flowing with milk and honey, but the other spies reported that the cities were of awesome strength, size and difficulty. So the people, too afraid to obey God, did not enter the land. God in His anger caused the whole generation of Israelites to wander in the wilderness because of their unbelief.

Abraham received a promise from God that was not fulfilled until years later by Joshua. You don’t have to wait years before you can enter into God’s promises. All you have to do is open your Bible and follow the lead of the Holy Spirit. The Bible is your infallible authority, "Heaven and earth shall pass away: but my words shall not pass away" (Mark 13:31). The Bible is your deed of inheritance "And if ye be Christ's, then are ye Abraham's seed, and heirs according to the promise" (Galatians 3:29). The Bible is your guide for life, "When thou goest, it shall lead thee; when thou sleepest, it shall keep thee; and when thou awakest, it shall talk with thee. For the commandment is a lamp; and the law is light; and reproofs of instruction are the way of life" (Proverbs 6:22, 23). The Bible is your stability, "Now unto him that is able to keep you from falling, and to present you faultless before the presence of his glory with exceeding joy" (Jude 24, 25 ); and it is your strength, "He giveth power to the faint; and to them that have no might he increaseth strength " (Isaiah 40:29).

My friend, the Bible is your Land of Promise. Let the Scriptures speak to you about whatever situation you are in. Take the time to search the Scriptures and find the answer to all of your daily problems. Whatever you are feeling, suffering or hoping.....the Bible has something to say to you. Open your Bible today and enter all that God has promised you!
