The Standard Stops the Flood
When the enemy shall come in like a flood, the Spirit of the LORD shall lift up a standard against him.Isaiah 59:19
Isaiah lets us know that when your enemy attempts to cover you, submerge you, flow over you and fight against you and take authority over you. It is then that the Spirit of the Lord lifts up a standard against him. A standard is widely recognized or employed as a model of authority or excellence: A flag, banner, or ensign, especially: The ensign of a chief of state, nation, or city. An emblem or flag of an army, raised on a pole to indicate the rallying point in battle.
For the believer God’s Word is the standard, the model of authority and excellence. God’s Word is the flag of the Holy Nation of our citizenry. God’s Word is what we raise up as a rallying point in our daily battles. There is no higher standard, there is no higher authority than God’s Word.
In the book of Isaiah chapter 14, satan made this declaration of war against God, “13…I will ascend into heaven, I will exalt my throne above the stars of God: I will sit also upon the mount of the congregation, in the sides of the north: 14 I will ascend above the heights of the clouds; I will be like the most High.” He started a war that he can’t win.
When the enemy comes in like a flood, this is who he has to contend with: He has to contend with Jehovah-Nissi: "The Lord Our Banner" (Ex. 17:15). God on the battlefield, from the word which means "to glisten," "to lift up," (Psalm 4:6). He has to contend with Jehovah-Sabaoth: "The Lord of Hosts" The commander of the angelic host and the armies of God (Isa. 1:24). He has to contend with El Elyon: “Most High" (Deut. 26:19, 32:8; Psa. 18:13;). He has to contend with Abir: “Mighty One” (Gen. 49:24; Deut. 10:17; Psa. 132:2, 5; Isa. 1:24, 49:26, 60:1).
My friend, you are an overcomer, not because I say so, but because Jesus says so. Jesus says this about you, “I have written unto you, fathers, because ye have known him that is from the beginning. I have written unto you, young men, because ye are strong, and the word of God abideth in you, and ye have overcome the wicked one” (1 John 2:14). Jesus says this about you, “Ye are of God, little children, and have overcome them: because greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world” (1 John 4:4). Today, take Him at His word. His word is the standard that stops the flood.
