Blessed Are The Forgiven (Part 4)
“I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go; I will counsel you with my loving eye on you.” Psalm 32:8 New International Version
The speaker of Psalm 32 seems to change in verses 8-9 from David to the Lord. The Lord offers His instruction and guidance to the reader who has just been encouraged in the previous verses to turn from his own way. God shows His willingness to give the repentant person a second, third, fiftieth, or hundredth chance! But He cautions: “Do not be like a senseless horse or mule that needs a bit and bridle to keep it under control” (Psalm 32:9 NLT). The Lord is stressing the importance of hearing, understanding, and obeying the Word of God.
Christians have the opportunity to sit at the feet of the greatest Teacher humanity has ever known! God’s Word has instruction for every area of life. Our God is not just a specialist in matters of the heart, or professional development, or sociology and the dynamics of community and family life – He is the Master and most proficient Teacher in literally every area of life, every challenge you may face, and every vision you can conceive.
The queen of Sheba travelled a great distance to learn from the wisdom of King Solomon. Solomon’s wisdom, given by God, was unprecedented in the entire world, and it amazed this foreign queen. “Happy are your men and happy are these your servants, who stand continually before you and hear your wisdom! Blessed be the LORD your God, who delighted in you, setting you on the throne of Israel! Because the LORD has loved Israel forever, therefore He made you king, to do justice and righteousness” (1 Kings 10:8-9 NKJV).
It’s common today for some to go on what they call a “quest for knowledge.” People are willing to travel any distance or pay any amount of money to receive the answers to their heart’s deepest questions. God, in Deuteronomy 30:14, narrows the search to a place very close to home: “The word is very near you. It is in your mouth and in your heart, so that you can do it.” God is faithful to send a Word to find you wherever you are. Our responsibility is to hear, understand, and obey!
