Consistency

Consistency

“And he [Jesus] is before all things, and by him all things consist.” Colossians 1:17

What better word than “rock” to represent God’s permanence, protection, and enduring faithfulness? He is Yahweh Tsuri (The LORD my Rock). Hannah said,“There is no Rock like our God” (1 Samuel 2:2 NIV). He is consistent in love, and faithful to perform His Word. Consistency is a condition of firmness and cohesion (being held together); it is the harmony of conduct with profession – letting your actions match what your mouth says!
Nature shows God’s quality of faithfulness. The sun has never refused to shine. No matter how dreadful the winter, springtime has always blossomed with new life. Mature fruit always has like-kind seed inside to continue the life cycle. Nature proves that God is faithful to His Word. Nature also proves that the Wisdom of God is unmatched. Who could counsel Him concerning the depths of the sea, or the foundations of the earth, or the vastness of the skies? His Wisdom is unsearchable. Whoever finds and keeps the Word of God is truly blessed and favored!
Wisdom is not withheld from those who ask God (James 1:5). But if one part of a man is set on God, and the other part set on something or someone else, then that man is unstable in all his ways (James 1:7). Proverbs 18:17 NIV “The first to present his case seems right, till another comes forward and questions him.” We can be firm in our profession of faith, completely content, until seeds of doubt, reason, and discontent are presented. Those opposing opinions cause us to waver from our initial stance, if yielded to, and threaten our sense of consistency. But when your eyes are set on the Rock, your soul finds rest (Isaiah 26:3-4; Psalm 62:1-2). Jesus is the Rock! I must admit that this is a fight. As the Apostle Paul said, we are not fighting to keep our possessions, we are not fighting to keep our position, we are to fight the good fight of faith (1 Timothy 6:12). He encouraged Timothy that he made a good profession of faith, now fight to keep it!
“Let us hold fast the profession of our faith without wavering; (for he is faithful that promised)” (Hebrews 10:23). In the midst of a society full of inconsistencies, God’s creative power is testimony of His faithfulness and wisdom. Right now your predicament may be inconsistent with God’s Promise, but hold on to your profession of faith. God is holding you together because sooner or later your predicament must bow to the Promise. God cannot lie!
