God Will Always Hear The Cry Of His People! (Part 1)

God Will Always Hear The Cry Of His People! (Part 1)

And he said, What hast thou done? the voice of thy brother's blood crieth unto me from the ground. (Genesis 4:10)

We all know and have read the story of Cain & Abel taken from this 4th chapter of Genesis. In this story Eve gives birth first to Cain, and later has another son by the name of Abel. As they grew up, Abel became a shepherd, and Cain became a farmer. When it came time for offering sacrifices to God, Cain brought an offering to God from the fruit of his harvest, not first fruit, but whatever he picked from his harvest. Abel brought God his first-born sheep. God accepted Abel’s offering, but did not accept Cain’s. Cain got very upset! God spoke to Cain and told him “If thou doest well, shalt thou not be accepted? and if thou doest not well, sin lieth at the door. And unto thee shall be his desire, and thou shalt rule over him.” The bottom line is that God wanted Cain to repent…and get it right, but instead, he remained angry and slew or killed his brother.

If we were to take a moment to think about it, we would then ask ourselves, “what was Cain’s rationales for killing his brother?” Was he in competition with him to see whose sacrifice would be accepted? Did Cain not understand that each offering was an individual sacrifice and therefore the chances of acceptance were not dependent upon a third party? If in fact, this is the case, what was the motivation in Cain's mind that he should kill his brother? His brother's sacrifice did not make his sacrifice better or worse. Cain’s problem was that he did not take time to look into or find out what type or quality of offering God wanted. That is so prevalent today. We see someone going forth and God is using them, and we get jealous and envious. We kill them with our words. We also kill their reputations, their visions and their dreams, all because they’ve taken time to find out what sacrifices God wants and have brought Him quality sacrifices, and we want it like “Burger King”…our way!

We all are one of two sorts of worshippers, Cain which represents being a proud, hardened despiser of the gospel method of salvation, who attempt to please God in ways of his own planning and choosing, and Abel which represents humble believers, who draw near to him in the way he has revealed “By faith Abel offered unto God a more excellent sacrifice than Cain, by which he obtained witness that he was righteous, God testifying of his gifts: and by it he being dead yet speaketh.” (Hebrews 11:4) The offering or worship we must make to God, must be in faith. Abel worshipped in faith and Cain did not.

Cain indulged hateful anger against Abel. He harbored an evil spirit of disgruntlement and rebellion against God. In verse 10, God addresses Cain with what he had done. Cain thought it was hidden, but there was a cry from one in whom God was pleased. Although Abel was dead, his blood cried from the ground. When you begin to touch the children of God, He takes action. Exoduse 22:23 says: “If thou afflict them in any wise, and they cry at all unto me, I will surely hear their cry;” God will always hear the cry of His people!
