God Will Always Hear The Cry Of His People! (Part 2)

God Will Always Hear The Cry Of His People! (Part 2)

And God heard the voice of the lad; and the angel of God called to Hagar out of heaven, and said unto her, What aileth thee, Hagar? fear not; for God hath heard the voice of the lad where he is. (Genesis 21:17)

In the previous verses of this 21st chapter of Genesis, we see how God did bring forth the promise to Abraham and Sarah of having a son. Previously to that Sarah decided she wanted to help God out by giving Hagar to Abraham to have a son with. Well of course this didn’t quite work in her favor. Hagar’s son Ishmael was the seed of Abraham, but Hagar was just a servant. So now in the 21st chapter, Isaac is born to Sarah and Abraham. The child grows up and is weaned. A little time passes when Sarah hears Ismael mocking Isaac, so she goes to Abraham with this request: "Get rid of this slave woman and her son. No child of this slave is going to share inheritance with my son Isaac!" (vs 9-10 Message) This upset Abraham, and pained him, because although Isaach was his son, so was Ishael. God spoke to him and said: "Don't feel badly about the boy and your maid. Do whatever Sarah tells you. Your descendants will come through Isaac. Regarding your maid's son, be assured that I'll also develop a great nation from him—he's your son, too." (vs 11-13 Message Bible)

The very next day, Abraham got up gathered food, a canteen of water, and sent Hagar away with her child. She ended up in the desert of Beersheba. It was here in the wilderness that she ran out of food and water. Hagar not wanting to see her son die, put him under a bush a distant away from herself. She was on one side of the wilderness crying out, and her son, Ishmael (the son of Abraham) was on the other side of the wilderness crying out. The Bible says that God heard the voice of the lad. Not the voice of Hagar, because she was a servant. He heard Ishmael because he was a son (seed of Abraham). God will always hear the cry of his people.

In verses 17-18, God begin to speak to Hagar. The angel of God called from Heaven to Hagar, "What's wrong, Hagar? Don't be afraid. God has heard the boy and knows the fix he's in. Up now; go get the boy. Hold him tight. I'm going to make of him a great nation."(The Message Bible) He heard Ishmael, but he responded to Hagar. Why because I believe that God will respond to anyone that has compassion for and/or loves his people. It was then that God opened her eyes, and she saw a well of water. She was able to fill it up, and give Ishmael the refreshing drink he was so desperately in need of.

Have you ever felt as if you were thrown out into the wilderness? Feeling as if you have done something so wrong that God has forgotten about you? You may be dealing with a wilderness experience, but like Hagar and Ishmael…God will hear your cry, and move somebody to act on your behalf. If in the courtroom, on your job, or even in a difficult situation, you never have to worry, because God will always hear the cry of His people!
