Face Your Giants

Face Your Giants
26And they went and came to Moses, and to Aaron, and to all the congregation of the children of Israel, unto the wilderness of Paran, to Kadesh; and brought back word unto them, and unto all the congregation, and shewed them the fruit of the land.  27And they told him, and said, We came unto the land whither thou sentest us, and surely it floweth with milk and honey; and this is the fruit of it. 33And there we saw the giants, the sons of Anak, which come of the giants: and we were in our own sight as grasshoppers, and so we were in their sight (Numbers 13:26, 27, 33).
45Then said David to the Philistine, Thou comest to me with a sword, and with a spear, and with a shield: but I come to thee in the name of the LORD of hosts, the God of the armies of Israel, whom thou hast defied. 47And all this assembly shall know that the LORD saveth not with sword and spear: for the battle is the LORD's, and he will give you into our hands (1 Samuel 17:45,47).
Moses and the children of Israel were just about to step into all of what God had promised them. They had lived in a “land of not enough” called Egypt, traveled through the “land of just enough” called the Wilderness. Now, they were about to step into the land of milk and honey, the “land of more than enough of everything.” Entering the Promised Land would change everything about their existence. But there was a problem. The problem was that they saw themselves as not being able to defeat the giants that occupied the land that God had given them. They looked on the giants as though they were bigger than God.
Even today, it seems that just when God is about to bless you, to move you from “not enough” through “just enough” into “more than enough”; just when you make up your mind to change, “giants” show up. These “giants” that come up are not put there by God to keep us from accomplishing great things Him. They are put there so that His power might be made known – to us and to the world. God purposes to demonstrate to everyone that He is Lord of all! Knowing this should give us great courage. Believing this should move us to pray for great things. It is not about us; it is about God, Who is great, and Who has determined to bless you and to demonstrate to the world that He is the Lord.
Goliath was over 9 feet tall; some say over 11 feet tall.  Even if David was 6 feet 5 inches tall, he was still a little by comparison. But God used this “little person” who had placed his trust in a great God, to accomplish great things. My friend, have you excused yourself from ministry opportunities because you thought you were not great enough for God? Let the story of David’s defeat of Goliath encourage and motivate you to face and defeat your giants.
