The Inner Witness

The Inner Witness

“The Spirit itself beareth witness with our spirit, that we are the children of God.”Romans 8:16
Speaking of the Holy Spirit, Jesus told His disciples in John 16:13, “When he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth.” The Holy Spirit, among other important tasks, comforts, counsels, and helps Christians by guiding us into the truth. The truth is the revelation of God and His Word. The Holy Spirit comforts us by revealing God in the midst of our weakness, distress, grief, trouble, and anxiety. When you’re in a tough spot, it’s always comforting to know that help is on the way. In the midst of trouble, the Holy Spirit manifests the presence of God to let you know that God has got your back!
God always takes care of His children. Once we are born again by receiving Jesus Christ as our personal Savior we are on the winning side. We literally pass from death to life. Well your spirit man is saved, but oftentimes our greatest fight is in the mind. That’s why the Apostle Paul urges us to be transformed by the renewing of our mind (Roman 12:2). After years of receiving its input from the world, the mind now has to begin to reject those old thoughts, and yield to the thoughts of God written in His Word, and revealed by the Holy Spirit.
Being adopted into God’s family (Romans 8:15-17), we now receive all the rights and privileges as His children. We have an inheritance. But what good is it to have something if you don’t know about it? Now enters the work of the Holy Spirit. Romans 8:16 says that the Holy Spirit bears witness, or testifies, with our human spirit, that we are indeed the children of God. To testify is to make a statement based on personal knowledge. According to 1 Corinthians 2:11 (NLT), “No one can know a person’s thoughts except that person’s own spirit, and no one can know God’s thoughts except God’s own Spirit.” The Holy Spirit convinces us, with an assurance, of who we are in Christ. It’s an inside-out confidence.
Spend some time today shutting away from what people are saying, and situations are saying, and hear what the Spirit of God is saying concerning your life. I guarantee that it’s Good News!
